Research Topic: The Economic Effects of Outsourcing to and Importing from China
Research Question: How is the national and local economy negatively affected by American investment in Chinese goods and labor?
Research Hypothesis: Supporting local businesses will give them the opportunity to prosper, even when they are in tight competition with billion-dollar corporations. Less Americans will lose their jobs to Chinese workers, and the values of community will be preserved.

Mini-Saga: Global

Made in China

The economic crisis has forced American consumers to monitor their excessive spending. Consumers have found large retail stores to be convenient. Instead of buying one item at a small store, people buy from large chains that offer a variety of products in one stop, with lower prices.

This is so true everybody is looking for convince no one cares about what this is doing to the economy or what people are going through to create the products that are being sold at these low prices -Lauren

This is a good point because despite being in a recession, people still spend like crazy on these products although they may not be similar to the original brand.Good stuff guys.

This really shows people that buying in bulk is an important thing to do during the economic crisis. The question is, is it truly good for our economy?

I agree. Convenience and price plays an incredible role in what i purchase as a consumer. Larger chains do have a greater variey than "ma and pa" stores. Plus, large chain stores are recognizeable and you know what to expect from that store no matter where you are.

I like the pictures you used to present the mini-saga. The dependency Americans have on products and luxuries that are easy to produce in China, but more expensive to produce here, are easily cheaper if imported to America.

During this economic crisis most people buy products in large amounts instead of just buying single packages. True facts and well organized.

After reading this mini-saga, it made me wonder what percent of America's imported goods are from China.

This got to the point quickly. Americans dont look at the long term effects of our actions. We want instant gratification regardless of our economy or future.

Too many things are being imported by China. We need to step back and think about making more products in America so that we can have something to rely on if we ever got in a fight with China.
